Junction City Community Center
Originally constructed as a 5,750-square-foot fire station, this building had been converted into a community center years ago but no longer met the needs of Junction City's growing community. The space was dark, drafty, and inflexible, limiting its ability to support multiple programs and events.
Location — Junction City, OR
Year Completed — 2025
Arbor South Architecture was engaged to thoughtfully update the facility, focusing on comfort, adaptability, and long-term performance. We replaced the original roll-up doors with energy-efficient storefront windows, bringing in natural light while improving the thermal envelope. Inside, an operable wall was introduced to allow the main space to support simultaneous uses, and a new entry hall was designed to reduce disruption between activities.
During construction, unforeseen structural issues required a redesign of the roof support system. Our team worked closely with the contractor to resolve these challenges efficiently, keeping the project on track.
The result is a bright, flexible, and welcoming community center that better serves Junction City — supporting events, programs, and everyday connections that strengthen civic life.
Additional improvements included a new ADA-compliant restroom, upgraded lighting, and a modern HVAC system — significantly improving accessibility, comfort, and energy efficiency for the Junction City community.

About This Project
Who is the architect for the Junction City Community Center?
The Junction City Community Center renovation was designed by Arbor South Architecture, a Eugene, Oregon-based firm with over four decades of experience in sustainable, civic, and community-focused design across the Willamette Valley.
What was this building before it became a community center?
The building was originally constructed as a fire station. At 5,750 square feet, it had been converted to community use prior to Arbor South's 2025 renovation, but the space remained dark, drafty, and unable to support multiple simultaneous programs.
What upgrades were made during the renovation?
Key upgrades included replacing roll-up doors with energy-efficient storefront windows, installing an operable wall partition for flexible multi-use programming, adding a new ADA-compliant restroom, upgrading to LED lighting, installing a modern HVAC system, and redesigning the roof support structure to address unforeseen structural conditions discovered during construction.
